Hi Will,

I typically send off a comments form with the invoice, not only does this allow the customer to pay, but they can raise issues they ran into or areas where they want to praise the work I have done. I find that this work very well for me as it also gives my clients the chance to be part of the final process, whilst I get some honest feedback on how well i did.

Andy: Thanks for your comment

I have been struggling myself recently to keep up with sending out the surveys. I think as time becomes tighter on projects it can be difficult to remember to do this. I do want to start making it a part of my regular process though, as the feedback is really valuable.

Regarding your last point, I guess you mean how I keep competitive with so many people offering similar services?

I like to think that my rate is sensible, in as much as not too cheap so as to attract bad clients, and then not too extortionate, so I don't find myself competing with small agencies. Hopefully I'm somewhere in the middle.

So far I've been lucky in that most of my clients have come from finding the Authentic Style website.

Will - good stuff! Im a corporate designer at a huge tech company in California - I also do quite a bit of freelance. I struggle with all the things you seem to be getting a handle on. Ive thought about sending out a survey after a project but have never followed through for a number of reasons. Are you're clients typically receptive?

And - how do you message around the abundance of really cheap talent out there?

thanks and keep sharing -

Yeah definitely try it out Tom. There's no one better to tell you how you're doing your job that the people you're actually doing it for!
